Microsoft made the move to Windows 10 easy. On top of being a free upgrade for a limited time, Windows 10 worked on most existing computers and often ran better than Windows 7 did on the same computer. Unfortunately, this is not the case for Windows 11.

While they will be offering the upgrade for free, the computer specification requirements of Windows 11 will significantly reduce the number of current computers that will upgrade. This isn’t Microsoft pushing to sell more computers as often mentioned in online forums. Microsoft is drastically improving the security of Windows 11 by requiring hardware-based security measures that are only on many newer computers.

With only three years until the end of support for Windows 10, now is the time to evaluate what computers will need to be replaced, budgeted, and planned.
